Dyeing to connect tribes, and to connect the intimate relationship between people and the land.
Dyeing is penetration, influence, and accumulation of time. It also has a profound interdependence and transformation with the environment.
The tribal people are invited to participate. They use shoulang yam from the forest to dye the clothes and use the mud where the buffaloes bathe and roll into mordant. Through the dyeing process, the body and mind interact together to evoke many memories of the early years, reconnecting the intimacy with the natural land.
The dyed cloth is hung like a cloth flag with the arrow bamboo. It marks people’s f presence on the land as well as enchantment. The driftwoods collected from the shoreline form a posture like a vine plant. In the two fields of the Xinshe Peninsula, we constructed a vitality form growing from the land. The fluttering flags dyed with the expectations and love of many people and formed a barrier that exists on the peninsula where a sacred space for living.
